DR. W. JEFFREY (JEFF) EDWARDS

AvSafe, LLC Principal and Founder

AvSafe’s principal investigator is William Jeffrey “Jeff” Edwards, Ph. D. is a retired U.S. Navy A-6 Intruder bombardier/ navigator. He has been an aircraft accident investigator for over 25 years.


He served as an aircraft accident investigator and Investigator In Charge (IIC) for the United States Naval Safety Center and later as an aircraft accident investigator for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft and Boeing. Dr. Edwards has investigated over 500 aircraft accidents throughout the world, including military fighter jet investigations, major NTSB “go team” investigations and many small aircraft crashes.


Dr. Edwards has attended several well-known aircraft accident investigation courses and aviation safety courses including the U.S. Navy Aviation Safety Officer course at Monterey, California, the U.S. Air Force Jet Engine Accident Investigation course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas and the U.S. Air Force Aircraft Accident Investigation course at Norton AFB, California.


In addition to his investigation work, Dr. Edwards has been a practicing certificated flight instructor for over 35 years. Dr. Edwards was an Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Designated Pilot Examiner for over 10 years—giving FAA check rides for the issuance of pilot certificates. In 2003, he was awarded the national flight instructor of the year award by the FAA administrator for his work as a flight instructor.
